One day I thought to myself…instead of working for someone else, why not work for myself? Starting my own business empowered me to live my life the way I wanted to.
Here are 7 reasons you should give it a go:
1. No one knows your work habits better than you.
Who better to know how you work better than yourself? Absolutely no one. No one will respect the way in which you work as much as you will either. You know when you work more effectively, where you work best. You know how much work you can get done, and you alone know just how smart you are and what awesome things you’re capable of accomplishing.
Apply that same drive and effort to the business you’ve been itching to start instead of putting the work into a business that limits you with restrictions.
2. You will without a doubt learn to work smarter.
To put it simply, when it’s your money you’re toying around with, you’re going to be trying a lot harder and thinking a lot smarter than at your standard 8-5 job.
When you start your own business, you have to learn how to do a lot of jobs in a short amount of time, making you become more efficient, and then leaving you with more time to get other necessary things done.
3. Say hello to better sales and networking skills.
Starting a business will require you to find the right people, force you to learn how to talk to people, and essentially teach you how to sell yourself and your brand.
At a regular job, someone else may be doing all of that work for you, which won’t give you any benefits later on when you move up the corporate ladder.
4. YES to working on your own schedule!
Want to sleep in? Want to stay up late? No one will tell you what time to come into work. Maybe you work better in the early hours of the morning, or maybe you work better after watching the nightly news. You will be your own boss, so you will determine when you need to start work and when you can be done for the day.
5. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!
Because you’re fresh out of college, you most likely don’t yet own many things, and frankly, you can fail and fail and still succeed – BIG!
So, why not start something while you have a bit of time to?
6. You’re full of fresh and funky ideas.
Aging doesn’t necessarily mean you have fewer and fewer ideas, but the younger you are the more likely you are to act on crazy-awesome ideas. You’ve got the guts – so go for it!
7. Most importantly, you’ll be doing what you love.
Far too many students fresh out of college (and in general) succumb to a life of banality because they are told that’s what they have to do. Don’t be that person, don’t cave into what society says you should do. You, more than anyone, have always known what you want to do, so why not do it? Don’t work a job that sucks, create your own career that you’re excited about!
